Office of the Alderman
The val'Inares family and the merchants of Heliadaquae formally welcome you to our fine town. Please stay for a visit.
Town Statistics
- Country: Milandir
- Region: Duchy of Tralia
- Government: Alderman, elected by the Town Council. The town council is composed of representatives of the various craft organizations and Val families.
- Ruler: Alderman Varian val'Inares
- Population: ~700 (previously ~3200)
- Population Breakdown: 81% Milandisian Human, 4% Canceri Human, 1% Coryani Human, 7% Elorii, 5% Ssressen, 1% Dwarven, 1% Other
- Militia/Town Guard: A small contingent of soliders (roughly 25), mostly devoted to Hurrian, keep the peace in town normally, as the continued trade relations between the various countries is in everyone's interest. This is supplemented by a group of rangers that patrol the surrounding countryside (around 15). In the recent wake of war, our population is much reduced, and most of our citizens are not of an age for combat, so we depend on our few soldiers more than ever for defense.
- History: Heliadaquae (High Coryani for Amber Springs) developed out of a small trading post on the border of the three nations of Canceri, Milandir, and the Vastwood. It was a nearly ideal location for a small settlement, as it sits near the edge of three environments: marsh, forest and plains. It started quite small, with trade between the Elorii and the 2 human groups there. Locals farmed, cut peat, and traded with other communities. Lumber is not a developed industry, as the Elorii kept close watch on their forests, and the Vosewalden is known as a dangerous place. The hot springs were a draw to the area, as it was a novelty to bath in hot waters, and bathing in the springs became quietly known as a "restorative". The small town really began to grow, however, with the coming of the Ssressen, and the discovery of a small deposit of amber on the outskirts of the primeval marshland. The Ssressen enjoyed having a "border town" on their territory where they could easily trade and interact with the humans and Elorii all year round. The discovery of amber led to the influx of a small number of dwarven settlers interested in the potential for skilled labor, and also an increase in trade with Canceri. The unique "Springs Amber" has small flecks of red or green in it, and is prized for jewelry and Nierite holy symbols, attracting traders from Canceri, Coryani, and places further afield. At the end of 1026 I.C., the town was the site of the Battle of Four Armies, where the combined forces of Milandir, Canceri, and the Coryani Empire defeated the army of the Swords of Nier. During this conflict, large areas of the town were destroyed, and much of the population perished. Thanks largely to the efforts of many adventurers and heroes, some portion of the population was saved, and the Nierite army was broken. We are now in the process of economic recovery.
- Local Economy/Trade Items: Amber, peat, some wooden items, "spa tourism", small amounts of farm trade.
- People: This town is racially diverse, and the people here are not quick to judge anyone on appearances. We thrive on a rather specialized trade, as well as a form of "spa tourism", so we welcome all travelers passing through.
- NPCs: To meet some of our citizens, wander about town!
- Heraldry: Or, at sinister chief two shovels in saltire vert, on pile inverted vert at nombril point a fountain natural or, in canton gules four swords fretted argent.
- Map: A CC2 map of the town is coming soon.
