Terminal Velocity Society

An Unchartered (Unofficial) Metaorg

The Terminal Velocity Society was founded in the year 1027 I.C. by Lucius val'Inares, the son of town Alderman Varian val'Inares. When Lucius survived an unfortunate and unexpected plummet of over 500' off the face of a mountain, he at first thought he was alone. He quickly discovered, however, that others had survived similar experiences. With this discovery, Lucius formed the Society in order to provide support to the other survivors.

Members of this Society may be known far and wide by their pronounced limps and wild stories. The members convene bi-monthly in Heliadaquae (when not off adventuring), to spend an afternoon soaking their arthritic and broken bones in the baths and commiserating with one another over recent events.

  • Membership Requirements
    • The candidate must have survived a free-fall of 200 feet or further, and impacted an unmoving surface (the ground), incurring the damage entailed by such a fall (20d6).
    • The candidate must not have required the use of a raise dead, or healing back from death, in the case of dwarven candidates.
    • Methods of reducing the physical damage suffered from impact (improved biofeedback, slowfall, etc.) are acceptable, but the elimination of impact and/or impact damage (fly, featherfall, etc.) disqualify the candidate.
  • Membership Benefits
    • None, really, beyond bragging rights.
    • The members are entitled to produce their membership certificate as proof of their wild stories to unbelieving listeners, for whatever that might be worth.
    • Members are entitled to add the designate "TVS" after their signature on documents, signaling their membership in this organization.
  • Details of Membership
    • The Society has two additional internal designates; Secondary Damage Survivor (SDS) and Combat Drop Veteran (CDV)
      • SDS: Members with the SDS designate not only survived the fall itself, but upon impact, a secondary damaging event (avalanche, rockslide, etc.) was triggered, which they also survived. By technicality, if the primary impact did not kill the candidate, but the secondary damage did, the candidate may still be accepted into the TVS, but does not earn the SDS designate.
      • CDV: Members with the CDV designate fell while involved in combat, and took their opponent with them. Whether their opponent survived the fall is irrelevant to the reception of this designate; the important part is that the fall took place with the candidate locked in combat with another falling being.
  • Joining Our Organization
If you qualify, and wish to join this metaorg, simply follow the following instructions:
    1. Send a message spell (email) to Lucius val'Inares with the subject line "TVS Join" and explaining the circumstances of your fall and how you survived, in order that your name and designates (if any) be added to our membership rolls here.
    2. Mage hand (download) your membership certificate from here.
    3. Scribe (print) your membership certificate on a scrap of handy vellum (paper).
    4. Have your witness (GM) to the fall sign your membership paperwork.
