Map of the World - 1027
Submitted to us, here in the Grand Library, is a map of the world and accompanying notes, submitted by the sage Neil Brown. Here sage Neil attempts to sketch out the extents of our world beyond the boundaries of what is known, based on the rumors and stories of travelers abroad. Like any cartographic attempt made by those that have not actually traveled to said locales, we here at the institute consider this merely a speculative effort, and present it for the curiosity of others.
Future developments of our knowledge of our world are likely to render parts, or all, of this map inaccurate and obsolete. Until that time, however, it is certainly as likely to be true as anything else we know at this point.

Sage Neil's Notes:
Here is a map I've drawn of the entire known world of Arcanis. It expands a whole lot from the published map in the Codex, and a lot of it is just speculative. It's very rough because we barely know enough to guess at a crude world map. We've seen just a touch of Onara and not even all of Onara. The Codex mentions that other continents exist but doesn't say much at all about them. Positions of latitudinal lines assume Arcanis is same size as Earth.
Here's how I came up with the continents' names. We know Onara, and I found that it's a feminine name that's a variation on the word honor. I ran with the idea of having the continents be female variations of Latin words for Roman (Coryani) virtues.
- Onara: known continent; name is known and means "honor"; existing map expanded in a speculative way
- Virda: the Eastern Continent; home of humanity; Vir is Latin for "man"; Virda is a corruption of Virta, which is the feminine form of Virtus, which is the masculine Roman god of Virtue; drawing is completely speculative since we only know that it had a southern section that was home of the Abebis
- Nidia: Nyambe-tanda; name starts with N just like Nyambe; Nidia is a corruption of Nydia, a modern female name based on nidus, which in Latin means "nest" or "refuge" or "place of origin"; we don't really know where in the world Nidia is relative to Onara except that it's in the tropics, and I guess south of Virda since the Abebis were known in Nidia; it's possible that Nidia is the same as Iustitia; drawn to match existing maps of Nyambe.
- Iustitia: Southern Continent; old Latin spelling (new spelling Justitia) of the concept of Justice; my idea is that ancient peoples of Onara established a penal colony there and so named it after justice; drawn to be roughly similar to India since there are hints of similarities in inhabitants
- Ilaeria: Western Continent; Ilaeria is a corruption of Hilaria, a female name meaning "happy" and corresponding to the Roman public virtue of Hiraritas (mirth); drawn to be similar (but much larger) than Ireland since the one known inhabitant of the continent (Carnival of Swords) has a Gaelic name; if the world is round, Ilaeria may be the same as Virda
- Southern Ice Land: theoretical southern land of ice reported by a lost Khitani ship (Lords of the Peaks)
